iO (Mulen) at Eighteen Street Lounge

ESL does not have a dress code or a pretentious “VIP” bottle service scene, at least not on the rooftop. Music heads have come to love the no-nonsense ambiance in a place that is both pleasant and charming without being fancy and excessive. There is a $10 cover to get in on Saturday night and people are actually there to socialize and dance. Every weekend, hundreds of people head to Eighteen Street Lounge to walk up a lean, tight, narrow staircase and into a vivacious space full of young partygoers and loud music. The added bonus besides the rooftop is the fact that you can freely move around in the space and it’s not too hot up there. On Saturday, there was an “intimate aka friend of a friend event”. The weather was great and in the 70s all day with a light breeze in the evening. We got to ESL in time to see Ukraine’s, iO (Mulen). He was on from 1 – 2:45 AM roughly, dropping funky, deep tunes for the crowd to dance to and at 3 the lights were on and bouncers were yelling for people to evacuate. ESL’s terrace was full, the atmosphere was good and so it came as a surprise that the shenanigans ended right past the 3 o´clock mark. Thankfully in Washington D.C. though, it is still possible to stay out dancing ’til the break of dawn, even if it’s not at Eighteen Street Lounge.

Ciao!
