Typically, May in the D.C. area, offers a beautiful transition between the chilly, rainy, wet days of April and the buildup of the June summer heat. This May, D.C. had a record number of rainy days and the coolest high temperatures since 1882. It also logged 15 straight days of rain, which was the longest rain streak on record. Despite the rainy forecast, Techno and Pizza still made it out to several events with some reviews in store for you.
Gina Turner at a.i:
A.I. is a pop-up concept event that brings diverse artists to play at different venues. On May 14, a.i. held an event with Gina Turner, Laidback Luke’s wife and NY-based producer to Dirty Bar in DuPont Circle. The event kicked off with local DJ, Mina, opening for Gina Turner. As the day progressed Gina got on the decks. Her style and track selections were typical to anything you would hear at a commercial nightclub. We heard “Show me Love” and other EDM top 40 mixes drop after drop throughout the afternoon. Overall, the day was fun because the weather was nice and the crowd was happy. The a.i crew will however need to lure us back for their next affair – and that may be a very tough sell. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
