Nicolas Jaar @ 9:30 Club

9:30 club was packed last night, yes, on a Tuesday. Walking into the packed concert venue, it was obvious that the show was sold out with the amount of people that were in the venue. Nicolas Jaar, a Chilean-American producer from New York, continues to move us. His creative talent shines brilliantly and impresses us with its unique, deep sounds. It came as no surprise to us that his Washington D.C. show was sold out. Last night Nico took the stage and flew us through a dreamlike musical journey with state-of-the-art, expressive, attractive, and deep tracks at the 9:30 club. He presented us with a wide array of electronic and experimental sounds, even played the trumpet, and sang, during his live set. Nico’s style was dark, fearless, and original. Visually, it was a gradual shift, most of the night Jaar was backlit with a solo light, and the stage was inundated with fog machines. The outcome was a disguised artist, and a stage that looked smoky. Each lighting element came in slowly, until the entire stage was lit up. At one point, the stage looked like a galaxy with stars and a sun. The sound system was so clear, and so loud, that you could feel the vibrations on the floor while swaying to the beats. Nicolas Jaar’s shy, introverted side makes him extremely appealing and humble. Some of our favorite tracks that he performed were: “Space Is Only Noise If You Can See” and the last track of the night he closed out with, “Time For Us”.

Ciao,
