Cities Denver

Sorry Beta, you just got 1-Upped

Located in Denver Colorado, on Blake Street between 19th and 20th, Beta is considered a Denver nightlife staple. While one of the club’s main points of attraction is its Funktion One Dance Stack Array system, the club mainly offers a music scene for people who are 18+, catering towards dubstep, trance and the EDM genre. With headliners like Kaskade, Laidback Luke, Rusko and Afrojack, this club is mainly known for that type of racket and noise, except for Sunday nights. Based on the research we’ve done, and the locals we spoke to, Beta could definitely harmonize with our musical desires for their “Proper” Sunday night parties, merely based on the lineup of artists that play on that night. We wouldn’t go near Beta on any other night, purely based on the entertainers and crowd it attracts, but Sunday’s lineup always looks legit. Some of the artists that have graced the decks at Beta on Sundays are Dubfire, Yokoo, Matthew Dekay, and Bedouin which are right up our melodic alley. Unfortunately, we were disappointed when we attempted to visit Beta on Sunday December 11th, all the way from Washington D.C.

Prior to visiting Beta, we stopped at a cool “barcade” with a major dive vibe called 1-Up. 1-Up is a bar that has tons of old-school games such as, Jenga, Skeeball, PacMan Battle Royale, and Mortal Kombat. It is an ocean of arcade games, 80’s and 90’s music, people having a good time, and wistful sounds. They have a well stocked bar containing an extensive variety of attractively priced beverages, with a friendly bar staff. We were 1,660 miles away from our home, yet we felt like it was home walking into 1-Up.

Shortly after 9:00 PM, we decided to head over to Beta for their “Proper” Sunday night event to see Route 94. Being rated as one of the top clubs in the nation, by a few different publications, we had high hopes to go inside, and were eager to check it out. Unfortunately, we were turned away by the unfriendly, incompetent, and callous, door staff, and were told that the box office was closed. We asked if we could pay cash, or buy tickets online from our mobile devices, since it was still early in the night and there was no line, but we were still turned away. Sorry Beta, but even before music, customer service is what makes a business successful, and our experience prevents us from ever coming back here again. Maybe next time we are in Colorado, we will try Vinyl, but Beta is definitely off of our list.

Ciao,

T&P
