For the past two years, St. Martin, a dazzling island in the Caribbean, has been home to techno and house music artists, and fans from all over the world for SXM Festival.
A few days ago St. Martin was completely devastated by Hurricane IRMA with catastrophic damage, and is now completely vulnerable to the other storms on its wake.
The roads are filled with water, homes are leveled out, cars are jammed into hotels, and debris is everywhere.
“It’s like someone with a lawn mower from the sky has gone over the island,” Marilou Rohan, a European vacationer on the Dutch side of St. Martin, which is split with France. “Houses are destroyed. Some are razed to the ground. I am lucky that I was in a sturdy house, but we had to bolster the door, the wind was so hard.”
SXM Festival has partnered with the local government to create the official rescue and relief gofundme for the island. If you can, please help give back to this wonderful community as it needs our help more than anything.
In a statement issued by SXM Festival, organizers communicated, “We appreciate all the words of love and of support. We are now focusing all our efforts on rescue and relief operations in Saint Martin and reaching out to our community for HELP. We will keep you informed and thank you for patience as we navigate through these difficult times. If you have ever been to SXM Festival or if you just want to help this incredibly worthy cause, please donate whatever you can afford and share this post with whoever you believe may wish to help. #SXMStrong”
